Position Overview

National Discipline will serve as the principal authority for maintaining standards of conduct and fair play across all levels of the association. This crucial governance role involves overseeing the disciplinary process, ensuring consistent application of rules and regulations, and upholding the integrity and values of roller sports throughout the organisation. The successful candidate will chair the National Discipline Committee, working with regional discipline officers to manage conduct issues, appeals, and sanctions whilst maintaining transparency and procedural fairness.

This position requires an individual with exceptional judgement, strong leadership capabilities, and a thorough understanding of natural justice principles. The role demands impartiality, discretion, and the ability to make difficult decisions that affect athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers across the sporting community. The Chairman must balance firm enforcement of standards with educational approaches that promote positive sporting behaviour and personal development.

Primary Responsibilities

Committee Leadership and Governance

  • Chair the National Discipline Committee and provide strategic direction for disciplinary matters across all regions
  • Establish and maintain disciplinary policies, procedures, and sanctions guidelines in accordance with national sporting governance standards
  • Coordinate with regional discipline officers to ensure consistent application of disciplinary measures throughout the association
  • Conduct regular committee meetings and maintain comprehensive records of all disciplinary proceedings
  • Provide guidance and training to regional discipline committee members on procedural matters and best practices

Case Management and Adjudication

  • Oversee the investigation and adjudication of serious disciplinary matters referred from the NEC
  • Chair disciplinary hearings for major infractions, ensuring all proceedings follow natural justice principles and association policies
  • Manage the appeals process for disciplinary decisions, including coordination with independent appeals panels where appropriate
  • Maintain detailed case files and ensure all documentation meets legal and organisational standards

Policy Development and Review

  • Regularly review and update the association's disciplinary code and procedures to reflect best practice and regulatory changes
  • Develop educational materials and guidance documents to assist athletes, coaches, and officials in understanding conduct expectations
  • Collaborate with the NEC to ensure disciplinary policies align with the association's strategic objectives and values
  • Monitor emerging issues in amateur sport and adapt disciplinary frameworks to address new challenges such as social media conduct and safeguarding concerns

Stakeholder Communication and Education

  • Communicate disciplinary decisions and outcomes to relevant parties whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality
  • Develop and deliver educational programmes on sporting conduct, ethics, and disciplinary procedures for athletes, coaches, and officials
  • Liaise with regional associations, national governing bodies, and other sporting organisations on disciplinary matters and shared concerns
  • Prepare annual reports on disciplinary activities, trends, and recommendations for the board and membership

Legal and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all disciplinary procedures comply with relevant legislation including data protection, human rights, and natural justice requirements
  • Maintain awareness of legal developments affecting sporting discipline and adapt procedures accordingly
  • Coordinate with legal advisors when complex cases arise or when disciplinary decisions may be subject to external challenge
  • Manage relationships with external agencies such as UK Anti-Doping, Sport Resolutions, and other regulatory bodies

Record Keeping and Administration

  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential records of all disciplinary proceedings and outcomes
  • Establish and oversee systems for tracking sanctions, monitoring compliance, and managing rehabilitation programmes
  • Prepare statistical reports on disciplinary activities to inform policy development and resource allocation
  • Ensure all documentation and record-keeping meets regulatory requirements and organisational standards

Professional Development and Training

  • Participate in continuing professional development related to sports governance, natural justice, and disciplinary procedures
  • Attend relevant conferences, seminars, and training programmes to maintain current knowledge of best practice
  • Develop and maintain networks with discipline chairmen from other sporting organisations to share knowledge and experience
  • Contribute to the broader sporting community through participation in forums on sports discipline and governance
